COVID-19 Positive Procedures

If your student receives a positive COVID-19 test, they will be required to isolate for at least 10 days following the specified guidance below and once they receive clearance from the Leon County Health Department.

Isolation On-Campus

If your student is living on-campus, they will be contacted by University Housing to discuss options for their isolation period. Students have the option of relocating to an available space in Rogers or Salley Hall or isolating off-campus or at home.

If your student chooses to isolate on campus in the provided accommodations, they are encouraged to pack their belongings (toiletries, pillow, clothing, technology, chargers, etc.) and follow the instructions given to them via their myFSU email from University Housing. Staff will work with your student to assign them to a space on-campus and bins are available to help your student transport their belongings. If your student has a vehicle on campus, they can park in the parking lot behind Rogers Hall (Lot 472). Your student will receive an email with follow up instructions and resources in case they have any questions or concerns.

Rogers and Salley Halls are two older residence hall facilities. While clean and functional, the bath facilities in the unit may not be as updated as the newer residence halls. Rogers Hall is a full apartment with kitchen appliances. Salley is a suite that has a bath, study room and the bedrooms. There are kitchens on some of the floors in Salley, where students can find a range, sink and space to cook if they choose to do so. Both have laundry facilities where students can do their laundry. Bed sheets and bath linens will be provided. Your student may want to bring their own pillow and blanket to use if they get cold in the air conditioning.

Please note that we have turned off the ice machines in all residence halls and have pulled the microwaves from the public kitchens. Additionally, the water spouts on all water fountains have been bagged with only those with bottle filling stations left operational. These changes were to decrease the high-touch items that could easily spread germs as students used them. However, individual rooms have both a mini-refrigerator and microwave included.

The Department of Housing and Residential Life has contracted with a cleaning company that specializes in infectious cleaning to provide cleaning services for the isolation halls.  Each room will be cleaned after a student leaves their isolation room. While each room has been cleaned before your student arrives, there may be work still needed. Your student can contact the staff numbers they have received to report concerns and see the options for correction or moving to another room.

Students will be able to return to their residence hall:

after 24 hours with NO fever without the use of fever-reducing medications

AND

COVID-19 symptoms have improved

AND

a minimum of 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared or a positive test

AND

Once they receive clearance from the Leon County Health Department (LCHD) who will be working in conjunction with University Health Services (UHS)

Students will receive this notification via their myFSU email address.

During the isolation period, students will continue to receive meals from Seminole Dining. If students purchased a meal plan, then the meals will count as a swipe, just as it would if they were eating in one of the dining facilities on campus. If they did not purchase a meal plan, students can set up an account and pay for the meals individually. There will also be information in the lobby on dining options from on-campus venues and instructions on how your student may order those options. Students will receive meals at the following times:

Day of the Week

Delivery Times

Weekdays

8:00 am, 12:00 pm, & 5:00 pm

Weekends/Holidays

10:30 am & 5:00 pm

For students in a fraternity or sorority who are in isolation and have a meal plan with their organization, they have two options. For some, the fraternity or sorority chapter has elected to allow students to order meals from Seminole Dining and have it charged directly to their respective chapter. For others, their chapter may deliver meals to them from the chapter house. For any meals that aren't normally included in a student's meal plan through the chapter, students can continue to order through Seminole Dining and pay for those meals on their own. For additional questions regarding sorority/fraternity meal plan options, please work with your student and contact the local chapter.

Students can also utilize other off-campus services, such as Instacart, Uber Eats, etc. for food and other deliveries.

Isolation Off-Campus

If your student lives on-campus, but chooses to isolate off campus, they are encouraged to pack their belongings and relocate to those accommodations as soon as possible. If your student is living off-campus and chooses to isolate in their off-campus accommodations, encourage your student to let their roommates know and prepare to remain in their room/bathroom for the duration of the isolation period.  Students living on-campus will be able to return to their residence hall:

after 24 hours with NO fever without the use of fever-reducing medications
