COVID-19 Testing On-Campus

If your student is experiencing COVID-like symptoms or has been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, it is important that your student self-isolates and schedules a COVID-19 test with the University. Testing on campus allows the University to appropriately support your student--please have a conversation with your student and explain the following reasons why testing on campus is essential:

  • Faster results - students will be notified of their results within 48 hours (or sooner) if they are tested on campus
  • Clinical case management from University staff - our University Health Services team follows up with students who test positive on campus, answers questions, and releases students from isolation in collaboration with the Leon County Health Department.
  • Access to resources and support - if your student tests positive for COVID-19, they receive important outreach from the Department of Student Support & Transitions to assess whether they need additional support or referrals, including requesting a letter of support for their instructors, relocation to isolation living arrangements (if your student lives in University housing), and work with the contact assessment team to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, etc.
  • Community responsibility - it helps the university better understand what’s happening on campus through contact assessment so we can mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
  • Test Costs Covered - Student Health Insurance information is collected and in the event that health insurance does not pay for the cost of the test, FSU will cover the cost so there is no out of pocket cost to our students or families.

To schedule a test, students should log in to their myFSU account, http://my.fsu.edu. Once they log in, in the center of their screen, they should see the “COVID-19 Resources” section and should click the link titled, “COVID-19 Testing Now Available.” This website provides important information regarding the Coronavirus, as well as a link to schedule a COVID-19 testing appointment. Students must register for a testing appointment at least twenty-four hours prior to the requested appointment time and must bring their driver’s license with them. Testing is available on weekdays from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Regardless of the convenience, we have students who are going off-campus for testing.  Florida State University is notified of the positives tests taken off campus by the Department of Health. The Department of Health has worked closely with FSU and we are in communication daily. While we still get notified of off-campus positive tests, students will receive more care by testing on-campus. If a student is tested off campus and wants assistance in working with the Leon County Health Department for release of isolation, University Health Services must receive a copy of the COVID test sent to  uhs-medicalrecords@fsu.edu. Some students are going off-campus for a rapid antigen test, which our medical professionals feel are not as accurate as the PCR test conducted at FSU.
