Alternative Break Opportunities

Is your student interested in community service? Are you worried about your student, as you hear about the stereotypical and clichéd plans some students devise for Spring Break? If you answered ‘yes’ to either question, you should encourage your student to check out Florida State Alternative Breaks, hosted by the Center for Leadership & Social Change!

Florida State Alternative Breaks is a program comprised of students who resist the idea of the expected, “normal,” or status quo by building authentic relationships with community leaders, supporting community-identified service initiatives, and challenging impersonal systems of competition and division anywhere they are found. FSAB has a mission to create change and a vision to do so through Active Citizen Leadership.

Florida State Alternative Break service experiences last the duration of spring break (Saturday, March 12 – Saturday, March 19, 2022) with housing, meals, transportation, and daily direct-service provided – all for approximately $300, charged through FSU student accounts, and easily payable online. Each alternative break experience is supported by peer facilitators and a full-time staff advisor, who attends with the students.

To attend an alternative break, students must first become members of Florida State Alternative Breaks (free, no commitment). Alternative break participants are selected from the membership one month prior to the break (Saturday, February 12, 2022 for Saturday, March 12, 2022 departure). Alternative Break specifics are announced in early January of each year.
