About Us

The Office of Investigations and Assessment (I&A), responds to reports the University receives regarding student groups and student organizations. I&A will review any reported information for potential violations of the FSU Student Organization Conduct Code. When necessary, I&A will initiate an investigation and gather information to better understand the report and whether a policy violation has occurred. Additionally, I&A provides University and departmental decision-makers with timely, relevant data on trends in student and student organization behaviors.

I&A is housed within the Department of Student Support and Transitions, an area focused on providing support to our students. This allows us to seamlessly connect students who interact with our office to other areas for additional resources and support as they navigate their student experience and potentially an investigative process.

I&A responds to reports involving any student organization/group at FSU. We define that as a Registered Student Organization that has been approved by the Student Organizations and Involvement Office, as designee of the Vice President for Student Affairs, to function at the University. In the Conduct Code, the term ‘student organization’ also refers to a student group which is defined as any number of persons who are associated with the University and each other, but who have not registered, or are not required to register, as a student organization that conducts business or participates in University-related activities. This includes, but is not limited to, student organizations that are no longer recognized by the University and/or (inter)national organization.

I&A is a neutral, fact-finding party. Our role is to gather information through student meetings and other means and compile all relevant information into an investigative report. At the end of an investigation that report is submitted to the Department of Student Conduct and Community Standards for review. SCCS will review the full investigation report and determine whether to charge groups or individuals with potential violations of the conduct codes.

I&A works closely with campus partners to understand the culture and history of organizations to help inform and provide context on any reported information including but not limited to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, the Office of Student Organizations and Involvement, the Department of Student Conduct and Community Standards, and the Florida State University Police Department .
