Closing Out the Semester
The Spring 2022 semester is ending on April 29, 2022. It’s typical for students to daydream about their upcoming time off and all of the fun plans that they have for the summer, but there are still a few weeks left of classes before then. Here are a few tips on how your student can finish out the semester strong.
Check Canvas. Burnout is a big obstacle that students face at this point in the semester. Letting minor assignments slide and taking time for yourself is okay in moderation, but don’t let this become a habit. Make sure that your student is staying up to date on Canvas and checking their grades. The last thing they want is to watch their grade drop right before finals week.
Email professors. If there is an issue that arises with your students' grades, encourage them to reach out to their professors. More often than not, professors are willing to work with students who need academic help if they are contacted far enough in advance. It is always worth it to send that email to a professor. Visit the Faculty and Staff Directory to find contact information for all faculty and staff.
Make a to-do list. Encourage your student to look through all of their remaining assignments and come up with a course of action. This way, there are no surprises when it comes to due dates and grades. Your student will be able to plan out the remainder of the semester and manage their time wisely. Encourage your student to visit the Academic Center for Excellence for any last minute tutoring or study room reservations.
Use your meal plan. Meal plans through Seminole Dining work on a two-semester plan for the fall and the spring semesters. Once the spring semester ends, so does your student's meal plan. Encourage them to make the most of the last few weeks on campus with their meal plan. If they have a limited number of swipes, encourage them to finish them up. If your student is staying for the summer semester, check out the Seminole Dining website to view their Summer 2022 meal plans.
Prepare for move-out. If your student lives on campus, they will want to start preparing to move out of the residence halls. Even if your student is staying for the summer semester, they cannot stay in their current room. Have them contact their resident assistant to learn more about the move-out plan that their building has in place. Your student will have to clean their room completely and return their key before checking out. If necessary, start making plans with your student on when family members can come to campus and help with the move-out process. For information on moving out, visit the University Housing website.
Florida State University has many resources on campus to ensure that your student can have a successful end to their semester. Most importantly, communicate with your student about what they need in these final weeks. Congratulations on finishing out the school year, and Go Noles!
