Office Spotlight: Career Center
One of the most beneficial resources that Florida State University has to offer on its campus is the Career Center. The Career Center has creatively developed an effective, collaborative, interdepartmental array of career services for students and other University constituents. Located in the Dunlap Student Success Center, the Career Center strives to be the preeminent career center model for designing and delivering comprehensive, innovative, and inclusive career and employment services.
The Career Center offers a variety of resources to students, employees, and others within the FSU community. The Career Center Library operates Monday through Friday from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. Here, you can browse through over a thousand books and print resources, and you can also browse the online catalog, Career Key. The Career Center also provides career guides that are designed to assist you in the career planning and job search process. These guides are available online or in print at the Career Center Library. I addition to these resources, the Career Center offers many other helpful tools, such as career portfolios, match major sheets, quick guides, internship information, the ProfessioNole Clothing Closet, mock interviews, and much more. Most colleges at FSU have a Career Liaison, a representative from the Career Center that offers industry-specific Career Advising, who serves as a great resource for all students.
The Career Center even offers a class to students that can help them prepare for and be successful in life after college. SDS 3340: Introduction to Career Development provides a unique opportunity to learn and develop the necessary skills to engage in life and career planning. It is a variable credit course, meaning that students can take the course for up to three credit hours. The course is divided into three units: Career Concepts and Applications, Social Conditions Affecting Career Development, and Implementing a Strategic Career Plan. If your student is having trouble choosing a major or occupation or just needs help with interviews and building a resume, this course is a fantastic resource.
The Career Center has many other programs to explore, including InternFSU, the Garnet & Gold Scholar Society, Nole Network, and more. Click here for more information about the Career Center.
