Office Spotlight: Money Matters
The Office of Financial Aid assists students with securing federal, state, and institutional aid, as well as determining the eligibility and awarding of financial aid. Every year, more than $350 million dollars in aid is awarded to FSU students through scholarships, grants, work study, and loans. To be considered for financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by December 1 to apply for financial aid for FREE for the 2022-2023 academic year (FSU Code: 001489). Summer term students should complete both the 2021-2022 and the 2022-2023 FAFSA. The deadline for the 2021-2022 FAFSA is June 30, 2022. Scholarships are another form of financial aid for students, and available through specific departments and colleges on campus. Students can check within their individual department for upcoming opportunities. FSU also offers an online scholarship platform to help with the scholarship search.
Student Business Services differs from the Office of Financial Aid in that they primarily focus on assessing yearly tuition & fees, processing financial aid and third-party payments, and issuing student refunds. Family members can access their student’s FSU Bill online at my.fsu.edu, however delegated access IS required. Student Business Services also oversees third-party payments, like Florida Pre-Paid and Bright Futures. Their office identifies students with Florida Pre-Paid plans and bills automatically each semester. Florida Pre-Paid is the first billed to your myFSU portal and will post by the end of the first week of classes. For those with the Bright Futures Scholarship, the award is paid out per credit hour. However, it can be applied to additional costs outside of tuition and fees. Payments for tuition are typically due on the Friday of the 2nd week of classes. For Summer B students, the deadline is June 27th and for Fall 2022 students, it is September 3rd.
The Office of Financial Aid and Student Business Services are both open for all students and family members during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, in University Center A, Suite 4400 (Fourth Floor) and Suite 1500 (First Floor), respectively. Financial aid counselors are available any time for questions or for a sit-down consultation on a walk-in basis, no appointments necessary.
