Office Spotlight: University Housing

University Housing is the department where all of your student’s on-campus housing needs are dealt with. Through University Housing, students are able to choose their residence halls and their roommates, join a Living-Learning Community with like minded students, read tips on how to enhance their on-campus experience, and much more. Their website has expansive information for both prospective students and current students that answers all of their housing questions.

The core values of University Housing include academic success, student development, stewardship of resources, and environment of care. While there is no residency requirement at Florida State University, University Housing believes that living on campus has a positive effect on students’ academic success as well as their transition to college. There are tens of thousands of new students who attend FSU every year, so University Housing encourages you to apply for housing and claim your spot as soon as your student is admitted in order to ensure your spot in a residence hall.

University Housing also provides helpful information for parents and guardians. A statement from the Parents & Guardians portion on their website reads: “The Housing Department at Florida State University considers the parents of our students as partners in the development of the student during their residential experience. Florida State University is committed to the intellectual, social, and personal development of its students. As partners, we can work together to help students develop problem-solving skills to aid them in their journey to becoming responsible and autonomous adults.” This page on the website discusses the changes that your student may go through once they arrive on campus, and it also provides resources on how to help and support your student during this transitional period.
