What to Expect Before and After Thanksgiving

As the Fall 2020 semester is slowly starting to end, there is still a lot taking place in the remaining weeks of November and December. Here is what you need to know as we head into Thanksgiving Break.

Enrollment for the Spring 2021 semester began on October 26 and goes until December 4. Many students’ enrollment windows have already opened, but for those who are unsure of when to register for classes, you can learn more by visiting the Spring Enrollment Appointment page on the Registrar’s website. Drop/add will begin at 12:00am EST on January 6 and will end 11:59pm EST on January 11.

Thanksgiving Break will take place November 25-29. After Thanksgiving Break, face-to-face instruction will cease, and students will move to fully remote instruction. There will be no in person/face-to-face classes after Thanksgiving Break. The last day of classes is December 4, and exam week will take place December 7-11.

University Housing:

Fall Closing

Fall term residence halls will remain open until noon on December 12th, including through the Thanksgiving break. On December 12th the suite style halls will close but the apartments (McCollum, Ragans, Traditions) will remain open. When students are leaving they should follow instructions from their hall staff to return their key. If your student is returning to the same room for spring, they do not need to bring all of their belongings home for winter break, although they should take valuables, medication, and anything they need for school if they’ll be home during remote instruction.

Spring Opening

All students living on campus will need to sign up for move in day and time, as well as an on campus COVID test for the day they return to campus. More information about spring opening can be found on our website: https://housing.fsu.edu/spring-21-move-in.

Graduation:

In early October, FSU announced that the Fall 2020 Graduation will be held virtually on December 11, 2020. Despite being virtual, FSU plans to uphold several traditional aspects of previous graduations, such as the opening processional to “Pomp and Circumstance” and the turning of tassels on graduates’ caps. President John Thrasher will preside over the ceremony and 2020-2021 Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor Sharon Nicholson will deliver the commencement address. Several other university administrators will join President Thrasher and Nicholson in the ceremony. For more information about Fall 2020 Commencement, you can visit the Countdown to Commencement website.
