Food Allergies and Accommodations

The OAS works in close partnership with Seminole Dining to ensure that students’ specific dietary needs are known and accommodated.  Please be sure to read all information provided by the Seminole Dining team included on this page, paying special attention to the Seminole Dining related forms that all students with dietary needs will be asked to complete and submit to the OAS.  Once students complete the intake meeting at the OAS we will refer the student for an one-on-one meeting with the Seminole Dining dietitian to discuss their specific food needs.

The Florida State University campus is equipped and dedicated to accommodating customers who have food allergies, Celiac disease, or other dietary needs. Our Seminole Dining team communicates daily with customers in order to provide safe, healthy, and delicious options.

My Zone – Suwannee Room

logo for My ZoneMy Zone is our campus “pantry” where food items needed by students with celiac disease or food allergies can be housed with precautions against cross-contact.  This special area is free of gluten-containing ingredients, as well as tree nuts and peanuts. My Zone gives students the ability to be involved in their own allergen-safe meal preparation.

Simple Servings – Seminole Cafe

The Simple Servings station offers food free from common allergens, including peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, wheat, soy, milk products, and eggs.

All foods offered are also free from gluten-containing ingredients. Simple Servings staff members are carefully trained to avoid cross-contact with food allergens. Separate equipment, storage areas, utensils and preparation areas minimize but do not totally eliminate the chances of gluten and allergens in our Simple Servings foods.

Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE):

Our campus dining provider, Sodexo, works closely with Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) to promote allergy awareness and improve the quality of life for students with food allergies. More information can be found on the FARE website at Managing Food Allergies at College.

Applying for Dietary Accommodations

Students with special dietary needs are expected to act as their own advocates for the purposes of communicating their dietary restrictions and needs to Seminole Dining. Once you have had your intake appointment with the OAS you will be informed on how to set up a meeting with the Seminole Dining Dietician to go over your specific needs/requests.
